Fuji Photo Film Starts Development of 1 Terabyte Optical Disc
March 03, 2006
The Nikkei Report recently revealed that Fuji Photo Film has started developing a material for next-generation optical discs, called hologram discs, which would allow these discs to reach a storage capacity of one terabyte. Hologram discs, which store data as interference patterns in the recording material instead of on pits on the disc's surface, currently have a maximum capacity of 300GB. The material for which Fuji Photo Film has started development is said to consist of organic pigments and photopolymers. The company expects one terabyte hologram discs to hit the market by 2009 at the earliest.
